We are twelve time visitors to Cuba and for the last six visits we have stayed with Tania and Miguel in their casa particular on Neptuno Street. We would like to tell you why Casa Tania Miguel is located on an exclusively Cuban, lively shopping street only seven minutes walk from the tourist areas on the Malacon and old Havana. The fact that Neptuno is a Cuban and not a tourist street means that no one is trying to sell you anything as you walk in your neighbourhood. But there is a lot to do within two blocks of your home. Families enjoy the best ice cream in Havana at a shop steps from your door, and the nearby Casa da Musica offers the best in Cuban music from the latest timba to traditional rumba starting with 4 o’clock matinees ending with dancing till dawn. The Santeria shops on the block can provide some very unusual souvenirs. Casa Tania Miguel is easily found by looking for the Adidas shop while walking on Neptuno or spotting the “Miami” sign in the sidewalk. Once inside you will find a bright clean, very secure accommodation, touched with the tropical elegance that makes Havana an extraordinary place to visit. Miguel’s collection of elaborate 19th century light fixtures is particularly impressive. The bedrooms are big, comfortable and cool. Air conditioning is installed but not usually necessary. Food at Casa Miguel Tania is uniformly generous and excellent. The breakfast ($3), often includes Miguel’s homemade breads (the only whole wheat products available in Havana.) Dinners around the family dining table are available if you notify Miguel by 2 PM. Seafood is a specialty and there is always good conversation and a sense of occasion. Miguel Tania and their family are resourceful, gracious and hardworking hosts who will arrange anything for their guests, from music\latin drumming lessons with expert teachers to visits to medical clinics.
